A lot of my work is based on the idea that so much of what we don’t see on a day-to-day basis still deserves our attention. For instance, there are people like Athanasie, who is the only person in her family who survived the 1994 Rwandan genocide. You can see her story here:
Today is “giving Tuesday”. There are so many worthwhile causes to give to, and probably I’ll say more about others on another occasion, but today I want to highlight the good work done by GiveDirectly, which carefully transfers cash to people like Athanasie. Of all the things one can spend one’s money on, I encourage you to think about whether there is anything that can make as much a difference in someone’s life as a donation to someone in dire poverty.
Here’s a link to a GiveDirectly donation page. Someone (not me) is matching donations there by an extra 50% if you donate through that link. [I have no affiliation with GiveDirectly - I just think that they are a great organization, and I myself donate to them.]
